Creative Challenge
Life is absolutely beautiful.

We have so many opportunities each day to enjoy that but if you’re anything like me, you may just take it for granted.
Maybe you work really hard. Perhaps you’re amazing with your loved ones. Maybe you are totally selfless in helping your community. Whatever you do, I’m sure you’re amazing, darling!
But is something missing?
Ya know, we were created with so much potential, so many abilities, so many talents and things that make us each completely unique. We should be thankful for this! But if you’re anything like me, you probably do take it for granted.
In the recent months, I’ve been itching to do something more. I’ve felt off and out of place. I’ve been needing to do something and I’ve been running around like a wounded animal, trying to find some relief. I think the reason may be because though I’ve been working really hard and learning about life, I’ve let something take a backseat; something I’m made to do.
I’ve let my life’s creativity die.
God put something on my heart about a year ago and it made my worship to Him that much sweeter. It was this simple fact: we were created, yet we get to create.
Essentially, we are created to be creative!
How amazing is that? This shows me that from the very core of our makeup, we were made to do what God does. This changed my mind on so many things. It makes me want to live up to the example that God has given me. It makes me want to imitate God and God alone in the same way that a small child imitates their parents.
There is no need for me to copy anyone else or compare my life to that of another person. We all know this, but in a society where we’re taught to judge ourselves by the opinions of other people, it’s a hard lesson to learn.
I think this is why mainstream stuff makes me so sick. It think this is why I’ve always hated trends. I think this is why I’ve always felt okay doing something unusual or not fitting in. Part of it could be just because I’m a stubborn, peculiar nerd of a person and want to find vindication but I really don’t think that’s it this time!
I really think we’re made to be unique. I really think we’re made to be creative. We’re made to be the innovators. We’re made to be the inventors. The writers. The troubadours. The scientists. The explorers. The bohemians. The dreamers. The individuals! Each of us have a part to play and if we’re not actively seeking it out each day, how will we ever know what it is we’re meant to do?
So that brings me to the point of this post. The Creative Challenge.
I just started reading a book called God’s Creative Power by Charles Capps. It is a small book with a few key points. It’s quite simple, but it’s honestly one of the most profound things I’ve ever read. I suggest you check it out if you get the chance.
Then, today as I was checking my Facebook, I saw the post of a friend named Brenda. She and I both write for Christcore.net and I’m a huge fan of her blog posts and devotionals. Her latest post outlines her desire to begin a Creative Challenge (you’ve gotta read it) and she ended it by inviting all who read it to join her in creating something new every day.
So friends, I extend the same challenge to you. Create one thing every day, maybe even just for this month. It can be anything. It can be something small like a poem or a vast project that you will add little bits to each day.
Maybe you’ll get better at something you’re passionate about or maybe you’ll find something new that sparks your creativity.
I’m going to be posting here and on Twitter (@sarainkingdom), borrowing Brenda’s #creativechallenge hashtag and I hope you will join in.
Let’s see what we’re made of but more importantly, let’s see what we’re made for!
